Attendance

At St. Oswald’s CE Primary School, we of course aim high and want all our students to be in 100% of the time as we know there are strong correlations between this and achievement. Our minimum expectation is 96%.

What time does the school day start and end?

From October 2023 (after the half term break)

Start time: 8:45am

End time:

Foundation Stage: 3:05pm

KS1 (Years 1 and 2): 3:10pm

KS2 (Year 3, 4, 5 and 6): 3:15pm

To be in line with what is expected from the Department of Education, we are planning to extend our school opening hours by 25 minutes a week. For minimum disruption, we are implementing a slightly earlier start time of 8.45am which will become compulsory from October half term. Gates to the playground will continue to open at 8.30am, with doors opening at 8.40am and will continue to close at 8.50am until half term, after which they will close at 8.45am. I trust this gives families enough time to adjust to the 5-minute earlier start each day. End times will continue to be staggered with reception at 3.05pm, KS1 at 3.10pm and KS2 at 3.15pm.

When can holidays be booked?

Please visit our holiday dates page to find our when we are on holiday this academic year:

From the start of term we will be implementing the City of York Council’s guidance for term-time holidays. Any family taking a child out of school for 5 or more days for a holiday will be issued with a fine. This includes those absences where parents inform us that their child is ill but we know that they have been on holiday. The children learn so much in every school day, usually building upon the day/s before and unauthorised absences can have a huge impact on learning.

Is my child too ill for school?

We hope you find the information provided by the NHS helpful in deciding whether your child is well enough to attend school. We follow the same guidance in the school office. If your child is too ill to attend school, we kindly ask that you inform the school office by 8.45am. We will contact parents/carers of any child who is absent from school each day, unless a reason has been provided.
